Meta Quest 2

Meta just made their Quest 2 VR headset way more affordable! It was originally sold at $299 but now the base model with 128GB storage can be yours for only $199 - that's a permanent price drop. At that price, the Quest 2 is definitely one of the cheapest VR headsets around. And get this, the Quest store now has over 500 games and apps to choose from. With so many cool titles available, you definitely won't get bored of your new headset anytime soon. This is a really sweet deal for anyone wanting to try out virtual reality gaming without breaking the bank.

It's not just the Quest 2 headset that's more affordable now. Meta also made the accessory prices way better. The Elite Strap is only $24.99 now, which is half of what it used to cost. The Elite Strap with Battery is also cheaper at $44.99. Even the carrying case and fit packs got over 50% discounts.

The price drops are kinda surprising but not totally out of nowhere. It was about a year after the Quest 2 came out that Meta actually increased the 128GB model to $399. After that, there were some temporary sales to make the Quest 2 a better deal. While all that was happening, Meta was working on the new Quest 3 headset too. So in a way, lowering prices long-term makes sense to keep more customers happy and interested in virtual reality headsets. Seems like a smart move overall!

Why the Quest 2 Still Has Value Despite Newer Headsets

So at $199, it seems like Meta wants to clear out Quest 2 stock and push more people towards the $499 Quest 3. But the Quest 3 is definitely a bigger investment, especially for folks just starting out in VR who maybe don't want to spend that much. Plus at $199, there aren't really any other headsets that can match the Quest 2's refined hardware and huge app library. So it makes sense for Meta to keep the Quest 2 around as a cheaper entry point option.

Not only are they constantly adding new games, but Meta has also been expanding VR into other areas like Xbox cloud gaming and VR movies/music/sports. They even let you use it as a virtual desktop! Soon you'll be able to use the Quest while lying down, connect external mics, and find friends in their VR spaces using the new People app. As Meta keeps improving the Quest 2 with new features and updates, it's easy to see why they want people sticking with the tried-and-tested headset even with the shiny new Quest 3 and Pro models available.
