T-Mobile Expands with Mint Acquisition

T-Mobile Takes the Reigns of Popular prepaid Brand Mint Mobile

T-Mobile has added some green to its signature magenta colors - it now owns prepaid provider Mint Mobile. The carrier spent around $1.35 billion to acquire Mint Mobile's parent company along with two other prepaid brands.

Mint attracted lots of attention, in part thanks to actor Ryan Reynolds who owns a stake in the company and stars in its ads. But customers also loves its ultra low rates, like unlimited 5G for just $30 a month. Of course, you have to prepay for a whole year to get that deal. Hotspot use is also limited each month.

Still, the upfront payment was clearly worth it for many - Mint was voted the top wireless service by our readers for a few years running. Even beating out other popular no-contract options like Consumer Cellular and Google Fi.

Now under T-Mobile's ownership, Mint can hopefully keep delivering great value to customers while benefitting from its parent company's powerful network. Fingers crossed the affordable rates stick around!

T-Mobile Promises Perks for Mint Mobile Customers

T-Mobile aims to keep Mint Mobile running smoothly while tapping into synergies. Mint and other prepaid brands will keep chugging along independently, similar to how T-Mobile successfully integrated MetroPCS years ago.

And potentially great news for Mint users - T-Mobile commits to maintaining the popular $15/month plan, along with an ongoing promo offering unlimited data at that price for a limited time.

Plus some future perks already in the works include scam call blocking rolling out, as well as free talk, text and data when visiting Canada. International travelers using Ultra Mobile may also benefit from improved roaming options in Mexico.

By owning these brands, T-Mobile can hopefully provide an even better prepaid experience while maintaining what drew customers to Mint and others in the first place - amazingly low costs. We'll have to wait and see how it all plays out, but more incentives down the line could make these already excellent options even sweeter deals.
