Voyager 1 Back Online

Voyager 1: Space Legend Back in Action!

Way back in 1977, NASA launched the incredible Voyager 1 spacecraft. It was supposed to last a few years, but guess what? It's still out there exploring the edges of our solar system! Recently though, Voyager 1 hit a snag. It started sending home messages that were totally jumbled – like someone dropped a puzzle of mission data.

But NASA engineers are awesome!  Even though Voyager 1 is a whopping 15 billion miles away, they figured out the problem. Turns out, the spacecraft's old onboard computers were getting a bit mixed up!  They found a way to reroute the code, basically like rebooting its brain from Earth.

Now, Voyager 1 can get back to its super important job – sending us amazing information about a part of space no probe has gone before.  This little spacecraft is seriously tough, and the team that keeps it running all these years is just as incredible.

Voyager 1: Talk About Long Distance!

Voyager 1 is so far out in space, it takes almost a whole day for its messages to reach us back home!  Think about how long you wait for a text to go through, and multiply that by a LOT.

NASA says that they'll spend the next few weeks tweaking Voyager 1's software to get its science data flowing again.

It's wild to think that Voyager 1 has a twin, Voyager 2,  and they've both been exploring space for over 46 years! Before heading out way beyond our planets, they both visited Jupiter and Saturn, and Voyager 2 even swung by Uranus and Neptune.
